About Penny Thorpe

Penny Thorpe Author

It’s no secret that Penny Thorpe is a pen name. Another very famous writer is publishing books under my given name, so I choose to write under my mother’s name. If you haven’t got your copy of The Quality Street Girls by Penny Thorpe yet you can visit the HarperCollins page to pick your online bookseller. Alternatively, talk to your local independent bookseller and ask if they want me to sign some copies.

As Alex Hutchinson I worked at Nestlé for 13 years as their chocolate historian and archivist. When the archive was finally closed in November 2018 I was snapped up by HarperCollins to write books, dig through archives, and go on the telly. Working in the Rowntree Mackintosh archive at Nestlé was an amazing experience (and sometimes pretty terrifying when the artefacts come to life…) but I was glad to be able to hand the collections over to a network of accredited museums and archives who will take great care of it while I go off on my adventures.

I write for HarperCollins and my agent is Jemima Forrester at David Higham’s Associates literary agency.

If you want to be the first to hear the news about my chocolate novels you can follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. I’ll be sharing sneak peeks of my upcoming covers, exclusive extracts, and lots, and lots of chocolate.
